f4.0, 0.3sec, ISO 200

Photograph taken with a single table lamp to the right of the ceramic horse. The light is coming through the lamp shade so is very soft.

G61A4289

f4.0, 1/5sec, ISO 200

Photograph taken with a single table lamp to the right of the ceramic horse. There is no lamp shade on the light, so the light is much harder with more contrast between the light and shadow areas.

G61A4291

f4.0, 0.4sec, ISO 200

Photograph taken with a single ceiling light (with a light shade) directly above the ceramic.

G61A4302

f5.0, 0.3sec, ISO 200

Photograph taken with a single floor lamp to the left of the subject. The light is quite hard and not very flattering.

G61A4305

f4.0, 1.3sec, ISO 200

Photograph taken with a single floor lamp to the left of the hand but quite a long way from it. The light is very diffuse and soft.

The main difference between the light in these images and those in Ex 4.2 is that the light in these images is being controlled. There is much more flexibility and control in the position of the light, how hard or soft it is and where it is positioned.

In the images in Ex4.2, the light was the same all day – cloudy and very diffuse, which meant the quality of the light could not be varied so easily.

The light in these images is also very yellow where the outside images of Ex4.2 have much less of an obvious colour cast.
